What to put in a bug report

So I do not have to ask back:

• device and system version — for example “iPad Pro 13", iPadOS 18.2” or “MacBook Pro M3, macOS 15.2”
• the version of Patch Work
• what you did, what you expected, what happened instead
• a screenshot if something looks wrong
• for problems in one particular setup, a backup as an attachment

Frequently asked

My devices do not sync between iPad and Mac.

Syncing goes through iCloud. Both devices must be signed in with the same Apple ID, and iCloud Drive must be on: Settings → your name → iCloud. Check there that Patch Work is in the list of apps and switched on. The first sync of a large studio can take a while, especially over cellular.

How do I back up my studio, and how do I restore one?

Patch Work stores backups as a file; the app's folder appears in “Files” on iPad and in the Finder on the Mac. From there you can copy it, pass it on and read it back in. A backup before a bigger rebuild is worth it — it is small and takes a moment.

My device is not in the catalogue.

You can add it yourself: connector panel, rack units, sockets with signal type and direction. It then behaves like any device from the catalogue. If it should go into the bundled catalogue, write to me — ideally with a link to the data sheet or a sharp photo of the rear. I redraw the panels myself; no manufacturer artwork goes into the app.

The live readout does not find my router.

Three things: the app must have been granted local network access on the first attempt (Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network). You have to enter the IP address yourself — the app does not browse for it. And the iPad or Mac must be on the same network as the router, not on a guest network. The connection uses TCP port 9990.

Can the app switch anything on my equipment?

No. A single command goes out over the wire, a keep-alive with no effect. Everything else is only read. A planning tool that is wrong costs you a thought — a control tool that is wrong costs you a take.

The labels on my printout are too small.

Choose A3 instead of A4 in the print dialogue. With densely populated panels — a row of 24 BNC, say — A4 is not enough for the names to stay legible. The rack plan prints landscape and the lists portrait; both are in one PDF file.

Do I need an account?

No. Patch Work has no sign-in, no accounts and no developer server. What you create lives on your device and in your own iCloud.

Which systems are supported?

iPadOS 17 and macOS 14 or later. One app for both, synced through iCloud. The interface is available in German and English.
